Witnessing Coal Tit’s Courtship Feeding!
今日は朝露の小風景など探鳥以外にいくつか目標を持っていつもの山のフィールドに出かけました。
もちろん、いつものように野鳥の撮影が中心になるでしょうが、まずは儚い朝露を纏った山野草の撮影から撮影開始です。
Today, I went to my usual mountain field with some goals other than bird watching, such as exploring small landscapes of morning dew.
Of course, bird photography will be the main focus as usual, but first I will start with taking pictures of mountain wildflowers covered in fleeting morning dew.

１回目の求愛給餌｜The first courtship
左がオス、右がメスです。
Left is male and right is female.
求愛給餌を受ける雌は翼を下げ細かく震わせながら口を開け、まるで雛が餌をねだるような姿勢をとるのが特徴です。
The female who receives the courtship feeding lowers her wings and shakes them finely while opening her mouth, taking a posture that is characteristic of a chick begging for food.

上がメス、下の虫を咥えている方がオスです。
The one above is female, while the one gripping the prey below is male.

今日、観察及び撮影したヒガラのカップルは彼らの行動から抱卵中だと推測されます。
そのような段階になっても、単にオスがメスのところに餌を運ぶのではなく、「求愛給餌」の形式をとることがあると知ることができました。
こういうことも含めて「求愛給餌」と呼ぶのでしょうか。
The couple of coal tits that I observed and photographed today are believed to be in the incubation stage based on their behavior.
Even at this stage, I learned that they sometimes take the form of “courtship feeding” rather than simply carrying food to the female.
I wonder if this term, “courtship feeding,” encompasses such actions as well.
