The kingfishers’ mating season has arrived!
今日は探鳥ウォーキングの往路と復路の両方でカワセミとの出合いがありました。
昨年末頃から時々見かけるようになったカワセミはオスでした。
朝一では、２羽のカワセミの鋭い鳴き声が聞こえたので、もしかするとオス同士の縄張り争いの可能性もあるかなと考えていました。
しかし、復路でメスを確認したので、オスが自分の縄張りにメスを招待したのだろうと推測してもよいのではないでしょうか。
オスがメスにアピールしていたのでしょうか。何度も鋭い鳴き声を交わしていました。
近いうちに求愛給餌も見られるのではないでしょうか。
上手くカップルが成立してほしいと願います。
I encountered a kingfisher on both the outbound and return walks of my birdwatching trip today.
The kingfisher I occasionally saw since the end of last year was a male.
In the morning, I heard the sharp cries of two kingfishers, so I thought there might be a territorial dispute between the males.
However, I spotted a female on the return trip, so it is possible that the male invited the female to his territory.
The male may have been trying to appeal to the female, as they exchanged sharp cries multiple times.
We may soon see courtship feeding as well.
I hope that the pair will form successfully.

なぜか撮影できたのはメスだけ。
I don’t know why, but all the photos I took were of the female.
オスに対して給餌をねだっているようにも見えました。

あとがき｜Wrap-Up
今日のオスとメスのカワセミとの出合いは、この公園に足繁く通う何人かのバーダーにとっては久し振りの朗報です。
約３年前から始まったこの公園の改修工事のためだと思われますが、カワセミがこの池での繁殖をしなくなったからです。
３年振りに、繁殖活動に伴う様々なシーンを観察できる可能性が出てきました。
我々の期待は高まるばかりです。
Today’s sighting with the male and female kingfisher is good news for several regular birdwatchers, as it has been a long time since we last saw one.
This may be due to the park’s renovation work that began about three years ago, which apparently caused the kingfishers to stop breeding in this pond.
